Blogs and articles are a great way  for you to attract buyers, but if you are serious about affiliate marketing and getting tons of traffic to your merchants, you must build your own website.  It does take a little work, but it pays off huge!  It costs about 10 dollars a month to have a website, but it is well worth it.

The first thing you want to do is find a reliable, reputable host and domain name seller.  A good place to buy a website from is HostGator (which i use).  They have good service and good rates.  They offer more benefits and tools than any other hosting company.  Check them out.

Before you buy a domain (website) name, you want to think about what you want to promote. You want to make sure that the domain name that you pick matches the item you are selling. You can promote pretty much anything.  The easiest way is to go through MYR. Making you richer (MYR) offers the best support out of any affiliate program.  They have tons of tools and knowledge to help you on your way.  They put it all together for you.

Once you have your website and you have your product, you want to create a layout for this page.  You can either learn some basics of HTML or you can buy a program that lays it out for you.  Dreamweaver and frontpage are useful programs, but if you have some time, you can learn how to do it yourself.  HTML is very basic and if you do decide to go through HostGator, they have a little site builder that is very useful.  

So, lets go over some basic HTML, which stands for hyper text markup language.  

First, you create a new text document under notepad.  This should be under “start”, “all programs”, “accessories”.  Type or paste in the following code.

Save the file as “Homepage.htm”.

Now, go open the page and see what you have created.  You have made your first HTML web page.  Yes it is very bare and there is not much to it, but this is just to show you the basics and to give you a general idea of how it works.

You always start a page with the “<html>” tag and always end it with the “</html>” tag.  This is telling the page what format you are using and that this is the start of an HTML file.  The “<head>” tag is designated for the title of the page and other things that we will go over later. 

The “<body>” tag is where the text of your web page will be.  This is where everything goes that you want people to see.  You can use <b> </b> to make text bold.  <i> </i> to make text italic.  And <u> </u> to underline text.  Everything you put in between these symbols (tags) will come out in that format.  If you want to separate a line to start a new paragraph, you use “<p> text goes here</p>”.  Here is another example.  Copy this and paste it in to a new notepad document like before and save it as something new like “homepage2.htm”.

Now go open it and you will see that it has separated the lines.  If you do not use this command, the text will continue on the same line, even if you hit enter in the notepad.

Make sure you always use lower case text in HTML.  Some web browsers will only recognize lower case text.  If you do not have it, your page will be jacked up.

So, you have the basics and now you want to add some pictures, links,  etc. to make your page look better.  

To insert a link copy the text below into one of the pages you made.  To insert it into a page you have already made, open the page and click on “view” from the toolbar and click “view source”.  You will see the html writing you have done.  Insert the text below.

Save the file and close it.  Now refresh the page browser and you should see the link highlighted.  That is a highlighted link.  It will say “Make Money Online” and it will direct you to getricher247.com.

Ok, so now you want to insert some files.  There are two types of files.  Imbedded in the page itself or inserted and “live” from a different location like a folder on your hosting site or  from another website like photobucket.com.  They will store photos for you and you can link to them for free.

Below is an example of an imbedded image. (you must have a picture file on your computer, under your C drive named image1.gif.  Just make one up in paint brush).

Do not worry about all the text in between <p> and </p>.  This is text that photobucket will give you when you upload photos to their site.  So go ahead and paste that into a new htm file and see what picture i have put there for you.  You should get a good laugh from it.

Once you have a photo, you can also add text that pops up when you roll your mouse over it.  This is called the “alt” tag.  Using the same image as before, i am going to add some alt text .  Look below and see if you can find it.

As you can see, i added

to the source.  When you roll your mouse over the image, you will see text that appears and says “dumb and dumber”.  This is not that useful now, but when it comes to search engine optimization, it can be helpful.  

Do not over load you page with images.  You do not want people to get frustrated with load time and click off of your page.

Here is how to add a background image to your page.  (Don’t forget, you must have the files on your C drive or on a hosted site).  I have added a few other tags like headers and paragraphs as a quick refresher.

So you have a good amount of skill with HTML now.  There are a few other things that you can do to make your page better, but for now, learn what we have covered here.

Once you have your webpage designed, you upload it onto your hosting service.  It is quick and easy. 

After you have studied how to make a general web page, you will want to learn how to optimize the website you created for search engines to find.  You want search engines to find your page so it can get more visits.  With some simple guidelines you can make this happen.  SEO

Write articles and insert a back link to your website at the bottom of the article.

You can insert backlinks into your blogs or someone elses blog.

Get involved in forums and include the link to your website or blog in your signature.  Post a lot!  And post in many forums.  Not just one.

Look for websites that are similar and ask them if they can link to your page.  If they say no, tell them that you will also link to them if they can link to you.  Ask Nicely!

Keywords are the most important aspect when dealing with SEO.  Other things that make a big impact are page rank, link building (covered in another section of thie website),  and html tags like alt, title, meta name and headings (keep reading for info on this).
You want to use a particular keyword sprinkled throughout your website, article or blog in certain places.  You want to choose keywords that do not have an overwhelming amount of competition.  If you choose to use a keyword like CD (a very popular one), your page will not even be seen on any of the first pages of a search engines results.  The pages that have a good page rank and a longer history will always be on top of yours.  So you want to use a keyword(s) that is/are related to your product, but not a very popular one.
A good tool you can use to find out which keywords are very popular and which ones are popular but not too popular is in the free tools section of this website.  So use it to your advantage.  

When placing your keywords, put them at the beginning and ending of your web page.  Also make one of them bold, italic, and underlined.  Start out with the keyword in each sentence of each paragraph and here and there throughout the paragraph.  Be careful not too get too carried away.  Do not place the keyword everywhere!

For webpages, it is important that you not only optimize your keywords in the text of your page, but you also need to include those keywords in the title, alt and meta name.  These can be edited in html mode.  In the HTML tutorial (one of the options in the left column of the page) I went over the basics of creating your own webpage and covered what tags are and where they go.  If you need some basic skills on this, go read the tutorial before we cover some more.

The beginning of a webpage’s HTML will always have a <head> section.  This is stuff that the web surfer does not see, but the search engine does.  In the <head> section, there are two important things.  The <title> tag and the <meta name> tag.  Under <title> you should always have your keyword.  Under <meta name “description”> and <meta name “keywords”> you should also always have your keyword, and keywords associated with that keyword.  

This is what it should look like for the keyword CD sale.

Search engines read this to see what is on your webpage.  Keep the <title> between 3 and 9 words and only use keywords.  Use 5 - 10 keywords in the <meta name “keyword”>.  

In the body of your html code (what the web surfer sees), you want to include alt tags, heading tags and hyperlinks.

You want to include a robot.txt file.  Just make a txt document (use notebook on windows), and put :

Then save it as robots.txt.

Then upload it to your directory, whatever your host is.  

This tells spiders from search engines to follow the links on your page and index them.

I went over headings in the HTML tutorial, but one thing i did not mention is that you want to make sure that you put your keywords in the headings.  There are <h1> to <h6> headings. They always come out bold and should be used as the title of a section of the webpage.  

Alt tags are tags that are associated with a picture on your page.  If you want someone to see text when they roll their mouse over an image, you give it and alt tag (also covered in HTML tutorial).  Including the keyword in your alt tag will boost your rating in a search engine.

So that is SEO in a nutshell.  I use SEO Elite to do all of this for me.  But it does cost a few bucks.  It is well worth the time and effort.  

Make sure to include hyperlinks (covered in the building links section of this website) as part of your SEO strategy.  It is very important.

There are many article submission sites which I have listed below. Make sure that when you submit these articles that they are a good length (500 - 1000 words). Submit the same article to as many article submission sites as you can, but always submit to ezinearticles.com first. They are the most stringent article site and will deny your article is already on another article site. When you insert your affiliate link at the bottom of the article, you do not want it to be a long ugly affiliate link. so use www.tinyurl.com to shorten it up a little bit. Also, article submission sites don’t really like affiliate links, so you can put another link that is mainly a no sale site and then change it once the article is approved. shhhh….

Blogs are similar to articles. You write about something related to your product and at the bottom, you include your link. You can write blogs on blogger.com, wordpress.com, and Squidoo.com are among the most popular.

With Blogs, you do want to write about things you know and you can literally write about anything! If you go through a blogging service like Blogger.com, make sure that you do not try and sell something with every blog you write. The site admin will recognize your site as spammy and they will do something about it. Visitors will also view your blog as spammy and they won’t trust you.

You do not want your blog to look like everyones else, so try and change up the template of the blog (you can learn how to do that on the blogging website).

To get your blog popular you can use blog traffic exchangers like www.blogexplosion.com, www.blogmad.net, and www.blogsoldiers.com. The best time to use the blog traffic exchangers is after you post a blog with an affiliate link in it because this affiliate link article will be at the top of your blog (what people will see).

When writing articles and/or blogs, it is very important to always use unique content. Always write your own articles and blogs or edit them greatly (75%). Search engines, article sites, and blogging sites recognize duplicate content. Unique content will get you more visits. Also, you do not want to copy someone elses work because it is copyrighted.
Another way to advertise besides articles and blogs is USFreeADS. It is like using an article submission site, but it is slightly different. It is like a classified ad.

Another method of getting your link out there is using forums. Find a forum related to your product and post there. Get to know the people, get involved, and include your link at the bottom of each post.

We have covered a lot of information on articles and blogs, but there are still many other ways to advertise your merchants product. You can use Search Engine Optimization (SEO), which I have covered in another section on this website (toolbar to the left of the page), or link building (also covered in another section), or submitting to directories (YES, also covered in another section!). There are also tons of other ways to advertise. You can use viral videos, off line classified ads, myspace, youtube, or even your own personal business card with your website written on it.

I’m sure you are ready to start advertising, but make sure that when you do try and attempt one of the methods described above that you really go at it 100% and really stick with it. Do not just half hazardly attempt each one of these just a little bit, because you will not get anywhere. Do not be overwhelmed. Master one thing at a time

Choose a topic you know about. When it comes to selling something, you want to make sure that you pick something that you have interest in and can add your personal opinion to. If you chose something you don’t like, you will get bored and give up on it.
